Why Amber Glass?
Light and oil stability
Oils, including black seed oil, can degrade when exposed to light — particularly ultraviolet (UV) light. This process, called photo-oxidation, can affect the oil's composition over time, potentially reducing the concentration of certain compounds — including thymoquinone (TQ) — and altering its flavor and aroma.
The type of container used for storage plays a direct role in how much light reaches the oil.
What amber glass does
Amber glass filters out a significant portion of UV and visible light. This makes it a practical choice for light-sensitive oils and is why it is commonly used for products like essential oils, certain supplements, and cold-pressed oils.
Clear glass offers no meaningful UV protection. Plastic varies widely depending on the type and thickness, and some plastics may interact with oils over time, particularly with prolonged storage or exposure to heat.
Glass vs. plastic
Beyond light protection, glass is chemically inert — it does not react with the oil it contains. This makes it a stable choice for long-term storage. Plastic, depending on the grade, may leach small amounts of compounds into the oil, especially under heat or over extended periods.
Neither material is universally superior in every context, but for a product like black seed oil that is sensitive to both light and chemical interaction, amber glass is a well-reasoned choice.
Storage still matters
