Black seed has a long history of traditional use for digestive wellness, but “digestive health” encompasses many different conditions.
One particularly interesting area of human research involves Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).
H. pylori is a bacterium that can colonize the stomach and is associated with gastritis and peptic ulcer disease.
What the Current Evidence Suggests
A randomized clinical study involving 88 people with H. pylori-positive non-ulcer dyspepsia compared standard triple therapy with different doses of Nigella sativa seed plus omeprazole.
The research produced interesting findings, but it represents a relatively small evidence base.
Importantly, the study investigated black seed—not Tayyiba Black Seed Oil.
Bottom Line
Preliminary human research involving Nigella sativa and H. pylori is interesting but is not sufficient to establish black seed oil as a treatment for H. pylori infection.
